The iPad frenzy, is it worth the mania?

Overhyped?  uh HUH!

Overpriced?  mmmm a little…

Worth the mania?   I think it is!

Here’s why: The Apple iPad represents the mainstreaming of a new computing and entertainment concept, the entertainment tablet.  It’s not a productivity or communications tool, rather a new way to interact with a world of “apps” the small programs that run on mobile devices.

That’s been the big story of the last couple years, little inexpensive programs that run on your phone and offer you entertainment for moments of downtime, while waiting in lines, to occupy your children and any other non-productive moment.  They rock!  Fun games that are entertaining and clever, restaurant finders and review apps and much much more.  Tablets (thats what an iPad is) simply take away the phone functionality and give you a huge screen!  Pretty awesome if you ask me.  Imagine a game of scrabble on the kitchen with family and then with a quick shift you can grab that new recipe you are ready to try.  Or a beautiful digital picture frame that can then stream  music to your stereo or help you plan a trip with it’s huge map interface.

The iPad is the first to market in my opinion.  Sure there have been other tablets, but none with the app development and potential to mainstream this fun concept.

I won’t be buying one though.  I will enjoy watching this unfold as I continue to wait for a really awesome, inexpensive Android based tablet.  Thats what I did with my Cell Phone.  I will admit I had to endure two years of blackberries and taunts of “where is your iphone?” until my Droid came out (BEST PHONE EVER!).  For me Apple products are perfect for: laptops and music players, otherwise I prefer the openness and flexibility of the Android platform for these other devices.

I also rated the iPad on Bubbalon.com, check it out if you haven’t and rate the iPad too!

Joey Thai Restaurant in Montclair, NJ

March 31st, 2010

OMG!  You just cannot find a more delicious and friendly place for a Thai food lunch in Montclair.  Joey Thai, on bloomfield ave is run by Joey and features his home cooking and friendly personality.  Every time I go eat there I am treated to steaming, spicy, quality food that Joey cooked himself along with Joey’s thoughts of the day.  The atmosphere is simple and light, like being in a happy person’s kitchen.  Today I got into a long conversation on the preparation of Baccala with another patron and Joey himself held forth on the virtues of experimentation in the kitchen, tons of fun!

Check out Joey Thai when you get a chance, if you like Thai I promise you will not be disappointed.

New Site Launch: Paradicepacks.com

March 25th, 2010

A few years ago I designed a website for a small company in montclair that had BIG ideas for a new invention of theirs:  Paradice Ice Packs.  Recently they decided they wanted a more social website, and a better store, so they contacted me to get the work done.

I’m proud to introduce the newly redesigned Paradicepacks.com:

Paradice Ice Packs Home PageThe folks at paradice wanted a catchy front page that helped people see the ways their product could help people, so we came up with a nice flash element that does the job.

The site is built on wordpress with a completely custom theme and integrates the SHOPP store plugin for the shopping cart.
